Welcome to Chile!
This magical tour will take us to historical and exotic places in the last corner of the world.
Chile is a long and narrow country located in the South end of the American continent. In Punta Arenas, we will visit the geographical point showing the half of the country.
Chile is described as constituted by three geographical areas.
–The first of them, Continental Chile, comprises a fringe in the West Coast of the Southern Cone which extends from the southern shore of the Pacific Ocean to the highest peaks of the Andes Mountain Range. It reaches a length of 4270 km, a maximum width of 445 km in the Magellan Regions and the Chilean Antarctica, and a minimum of 90 km in the Coquimbo Region. It borders Peru in the North, Bolivia in the Northeast and Argentina in the East, totaling 7801 km of land borders and the Drake Passage in the South.
–The second, Insular Chile, corresponds to a set of islands of volcanic origin in the South Pacific ocean: the archipelago of Juan Fernandez and the Unfortunate Islands, belonging to the South America, the Salas and Gomes Islands and the Easter Island, located in the Oceania.
–The third, the Chilean Antarctic Territory, is an area of 1,250,257.6 km² between the meridians over which Chile claims sovereignty, prolonging its meridional limit until the South Pole. This claim is suspended as per the Antarctic Treaty, of which Chile is the signatory. Due to the latter, Chile is defined as a tricontinental country.
Chile is considered a high income country and in the process of development. Its more than 18 million inhabitants average indexes of alphabetization, life quality, economic growth, human development, life expectancy, globalization and GDP per capita that are found amongst the highest of the Latin America.
Chile is located on the perimeters of a highly seismic area due to subduction of the Nazca and Antarctic plates in the South American plate. Included in the Pacific Ring of Fire, Chile has the second largest and active volcanic chain of the planet. During our travel, we will visit two geographical areas: The Central area, which is the most populated regions of the country, and the Patagonia. In the latter, we will make a tour around the lakes and the volcanoes and we will visit the area of glaciers.
This travel is a combination of cultural and natural heritage, which will be shown throughout our journey.
Before your trip, you will receive a PDF document with more Chile history and geographical information. Welcome to this fantastic trip!
Pablo Neruda, aka Ricardo Eliecer Neftali Reyes Basoalto (July 12, 1904-September 23, 1973), was a Chilean poet considered amongst the most featured and influential artists of his century; “the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language”, according to Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Our first stage will follow the footprints of this universal poet, through his works and houses we will see a part of the country’s history, its nature and culture. Neruda had 3 houses, all of which have become museums: La Chascona in Santiago; La Sebastiana in Valparaíso and the larger, in Isla Negra. The poet and his dear Matilde are buried in the latter.
Second stage: parks, mountains and glaciers of the Patagonia.
Welcome to the South end of Patagonia. Our second stage will take us to the Magellan area, with Punta Arenas as the capital of the area and Puerto Natales. In this area of mountains, fjords and glaciers, we will make a visit to one of the world’s largest glaciers: Perito Moreno, in Argentina. It also include visits to glaciers in Chile.
In this stage, there is the possibility to choose an alternative day instead of a visit to the glaciers, and it is possible to choose a one day tour to see the whales. The tour of whales is charged separated.
For more information, choose the tour “One day with the whales”.
Third stage: the tour of the lakes and volcanoes, from Chile to Argentina. Our third stage will take us to the lakes and volcanoes in the North Patagonia. A fantastic trip where we will see wonderful scenery with European architecture and the natural beauty of the region. From Puerto Varas in Chile to Bariloche in Argentina. Our transport will be combined between bus, speedboats and boats.
